ECONOMIC INSECURITY

This is the third in a series of forums planned around the Platform for Action's 12 Critical Areas of Concern developed at the Beijing International Women's Conference:

POVERTY

Economic Justice

Media

Education

Power Sharing

Peace

Health

Institutional Mechanisms

Environment

Violence

Human Rights

The Girl-Child

We will view the current economic crisis through a gender lens, exploring the specific challenges for women, identifying potential opportunities and developing skills and coordinated action for improving the economic prospects for women in Ventura County.

Lilly Ledbetter will be our special luncheon speaker. Lilly is the namesake for the Fair Pay Act of 2009 that passed the US Congress and was the first law signed by President Barack Obama on January 2009. This important civil and economic justice bill amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 allowing women to sue under the Equality Pay Act citing sex discrimination in the workplace.

Sponsorship, Scholarship, and Vendor/Display opportunites are available.
